Three Shires Cattle Competition 2019 - a Great Success!
The SELEKT Three Shires Cattle Trophy and £1,000 prize money was awarded to Bartle & Dawes of Dinmore Manor, Herefordshire with their superb Limousin, Beef Shorthorn and British Blue cattle. The prize presentation took place at the 70th annual Moreton-in-Marsh Show held on Saturday 7th September.
One of the top cattle competitions in the UK with a prize pot of over £2,000, The SELEKT Three Shires Cattle Trophy is awarded to the cattle exhibitor who collects the highest number of points at three of the best Midlands Shows – Hanbury Countryside Show held on the first Saturday in July, Burwarton Show held on the first Thursday in August and Moreton Show held on the first Saturday in September.
It was also tremendous to see Duncan Dawes Farms Ltd, come second. They also won the highly coveted Mary Oughton Memorial Trophy and £250 awarded to the dairy exhibitors with the most points. Their Holsteins and Jerseys were of excellent quality and achieved top awards at all three Shows.
The Three Shires Cattle Trophy competitions are kindly supported by SELEKT. The SELEKT SYSTEM provides life-saving rehydration and clinical nutrition for cows. It was particularly pleasing to learn this year that this excellent product had been used on one of the Duncan Dawes Farms’ Holsteins. Affectionately known as Shakira, this top bred Holstein of Canadian genetics, born in Scotland and the product of Embyro transfer suffered a displaced abomasum just two weeks before the Hanbury Countryside Show. She was successfully operated on and treated with SELEKT, and amazingly went on to win her class and overall Reserve Champion at Hanbury against strong competition. Shakira was proudly led by Mr Michael Dawes when he collected his prizes at Moreton Show.
David Rennie from SELEKT commented ‘I am thrilled to learn that the SELEKT System was successfully used, not only to keep this cow alive, but also allow her to thrive and enjoy a highly successful showing season. It has been a great pleasure to support this excellent competition for the past three years’.
